Q. I am having trouble with Flash Drives not mapping to the correct drive letter in windows when students put them into the computer. Is there a way to set Windows to always use a selected drive letter?
A. This is my solution. I’m putting it here because I can’t get to it without going around my employer’s firewall.
From the site:
USBDLM is a Windows service that gives control over Window’s drive letter assignment for USB drives. Running as service makes it independent of the logged on user’s privileges, so there is no need to give the users the privilege to change drive letters. It automatically solves conflicts between USB drives and network or subst drives of the currently logged on user.
Furthermore you can define new default letters for USB drives and much more.
Check the readme, which I’ve copied into a txt for those of us behind firewalls.
