a-curse-on-windows-vista

It’s funny how things cascade out of control. Our school was hit by lightning. It fried an archaic, windows 95 machine which was running out time clocks. No problem, I figured I’d knock together a small php/mysql based timeclock based on one I’d found on the ‘Net. My hack is working in testing on my laptop running Wampserver. I cn set which IPs can access the server. I can force all teacher to sign in from the front desk. It’s only network accessible and I can pop into it from my desk. Smooth. I’m the f-ing man, right?  Time to move it to a brand new PC, fresh out of the box. It’s a Dell Optiplex 755, running Windows Vista. Cool Right?

No Not Cool.

Beyond troubleshooting, this is my first run in with Vista. Why the hell is it asking me for permision every 5 minutes?  Google UAC. Got that fixed. Now I can work, right?

No. Trend Micro came installed on the machine and it’s not compatible with with Vista SP1. Uninstall TM? Nope, need a password and it’s Friday. No one is at the helpdesk on Fridays. Screw it, I deleted the registry keys, rebooted and we’re good, right?

Hell Naw. This is wht I get#2003 - Can’t connect to MySQL server on ‘localhost’ (10061)” WTF does that mean? I’ve googled and googled, but none of the fixes work.

Grrrr.
